Maureen Ondieki

I am a first year PhD student exploring how the intersectionality of students’ identities influences their experiences within engineering education. My research examines the structural barriers and enabling factors that shape student success, with the goal of informing evidence-based strategies and policies that promote diverse and equitable pathways into the engineering profession.

I recently joined the lab and am excited to be working on the CAREER project, which investigates the experiences of Latino engineering students pursuing doctoral programs at Hispanic Serving Institutions. This project aims to understand the systemic factors that influence students’ experiences and inform strategies that will promote students’ success. This work aligns with my broader research interests in examining how the intersectionality of students’ identities shapes their experiences in engineering education and identifying structural changes that support more inclusive academic environments.

Outside of academia, I find balance and inspiration in nature, often spending time on forest trails where I feel most at peace.
